Scott’s Grotto is now open with our normal opening hours, Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 2-4.30
Booking isn’t necessary – Visitors are asked to check in, either by self-scanning or providing contact details, to use the hand sanitiser provided and to wear masks or face covering if possible within the Grotto itself or the Summerhouse.
The grotto is open 1400-1630 on each Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday between April 1st and September 28th. There is no need to book, entrance is £1 which is used for the care and maintenance of this historic site.
Additionally the Grotto will be open during the first weekend of the annual Civic Trust Heritage Open Weekend, September 14th and 15th 2019.
Outside of normal opening days, group visits can also be arranged by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or telephoning Ware (01920) 464131 (again April until September).
The Grotto can be found between number 28 and number 34 Scotts Road, Ware (Scotts Road is next to the college on the A119 to Hertford). If using Satnav, the postcode is SG12 9JQ
Visitors are advised to wear flat shoes and bring a torch as the floor is uneven and the entire underground system is unlit. In the garden there are steps leading down to the grotto and up to the summerhouse. Visitors are requested to stay on the paths leading to the grotto and summerhouse and not to climb the banks. Unfortunately, there is no access for wheelchair users.
